A gentleman has died at the age of 82. Mr. Naylor Sargent is no more. He died suddenly and without warning while on a family visit in Frøstrup, Denmark, during the night of Thursday, October 10.
Naylor C. Sargent was born in Montreal, Quebec, where he lived until his retirement. Afterwards, Naylor and his wife, Inge, settled in Lancaster, Ontario.
Just as they had done for many years, they were on a visit to Denmark when Naylor became ill during the night and died. Without warning, a good and active life came to an end.
Naylor was of White Russian and French-Canadian descent. From a very young age, Naylor was fascinated by flying, and earned his pilot’s license very early in life. He was employed in the aviation industry his entire working life and for many years he worked for Bendix Avelex Inc., as Manager, Product Support Marketing. After retiring from this company, he was hired by Innotech Aviation Inc. as Manager, Technical Sales. Business trips brought Naylor to over 100 countries around the world. Travel for him was life.
Naylor and Inge met in Canada in 1976 and were married in 1979 in Tømmerby Church, Denmark.
Every year since then, they have visited with family in Frøstrup where they were the treasured guests of many friends and family in Denmark. The ties to Northern Jutland remained strong over the years for both of them.
Naylor was a very engaged person. Despite increasing age, he never worried about life’s limitations. Instead he focussed on the possibilities now provided for travel around the world and for unique experiences. This resulted in visits to many lands and many eventful cruises for both of them.
Naylor also treasured his kin and concerned himself with their well-being. He had the energy and interest to create happy times around him. He could always bridge the gap by telling his jokes and stories and create room for laughter and dialogue around him.
Naylor was a strong supporter of traditional values, and was literally a gentleman and a handsome one at that. Just the other day we were discussing that it was difficult to reconcile his age with his energy, style and charm. He told us about all the exciting things that he and Inge had lined up for the coming year. He was in no way ready for this – regardless, he was claimed during his sleep.
For him with his bright outlook, it was a good and easy way to let go. It was almost as if it was a well-formed plan. It was Naylor’s wish to be buried in Denmark in the Tømmerby cemetery. That he passed away while the family was gathered is rather thought-provoking.
The last gentleman is no more !
We will miss him and his contagious humour, his ‘joie de vivre’, and not least, his appetite for life.
May his memory be treasured.
