Holy Week was an exciting time at St. Ansgar's. We began the week with a blow-out musical experience on Palm Sunday, celebrating Christ's triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. In addition to our own choirs, we were graced by performances by the choir of Kean University in New Jersey and by the local Harmonie vocal group. The sermon on Good Friday was replaced by a dramatization of the Passion Story, based in part on the unpublished work of Eleanor J. Filyer. A Klezmer band added a novel touch to the Easter Vigil offered annually by St. John's Lutheran Church. We at St. Ansgar's finally gathered on Easter morning for our traditional breakfast, followed by the Easter Sunday Resurrection service. In addition to the pastor's sermon, there was a presentation on the Jewish perspective on the Passover, most particularly on the role of the matzah, or unleavened bread, in annual remembrance of God's grace.
