ST. ANSGAR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH
Thanksgiving Sunday October 12, 2003 Thanks for Everything
WELCOME!
With hearts filled with thanksgiving and lips to sing His praises, we
come together to worship and adore our Lord for His physical and spiritual
blessings. We enjoy abundance in life because of His love and care. Therefore,
“Let us give thanks to the living Lord! Hallelujah!” We are glad you have joined us today! It is our sincere prayer
that you experience His presence and that you go out into God’s world renewed
and refreshed as His child. Please stay after the service and join us for some
fellowship and a good cup of coffee or tea!
A very happy Thanksgiving
Day to all!

Deacon’s Prayer & (stand)
Prelude
Opening Hymn: Beautiful Saviour LBW # 518
Beautiful Saviour, King of creation, Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I’d love thee, Truly I’d serve thee, Light of my soul, my joy, my
crown.
Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands, Robed in flow’rs of
blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.
Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars
on high;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels in the
sky.
Beautiful Saviour, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honour, Praise, adoration, Now and forevermore be thine!
Invocation: Roger Kenner (stand)
L: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love
of God, and the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C:
And also with you.
L: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the
earth. Worship him
with
gladness and come into his presence with happy songs.
C:
The Lord is our God. He made us, and we
belong to him. We are his people,
the
sheep of his pasture.
L: Enter his
gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to
him and bless his name.
C: The Lord is good; his steadfast love endures
forever and his
faithfulness to all generations.
L: Let us pray:
Father of mercies and God of
all consolation, come to the aid of Your people, turning us from our sin to
live for You alone. Give us the power of Your Holy Spirit that we may attend to
Your Word, confess our sins, receive Your forgiveness, and grow into the
fullness of Your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and our Redeemer.
C: Amen
(Silence
for personal reflection)
L: Let us then confess our
sins to God our merciful Father:
C:
Gracious God, Your gifts to us have been so abundant that we often let those
gifts take Your place in our hearts. We have worshipped things instead of You.
We have put our trust in Your gifts rather than in You, the giver. We have laid
up for ourselves treasures on earth., and ignored the real treasure of Your
love and grace. For our sins of selfishness, misplaced trust, thanklessness,
and many offenses against You, we are heartily sorry. We ask for Your
forgiveness for Jesus’ sake. Amen
L: Almighty God in His mercy
has given His Son to die for us and for His sake forgives us all our sins. As a
called and ordained servant of the Word I therefore forgive us all our sins in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Set our minds,
therefore, on the things that are above!
C:
Amen
L: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the
communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C: And also with you.
L: In peace, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.
L: For the peace from above, and for our salvation, let us pray to the
Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.
L: For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church
of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.
L: For this holy house, and for all who offer here their worship and
praise, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.
L: Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.
C: Amen.
Hymn of Praise: “ Great is Thy
Faithfulness ” (WOV 771)
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of
turning with thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been,
thou forever wilt be.
Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new
mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided;
great is thy faithfulness,
Lord, unto me!
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thine own dear presence to
cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings
all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Refrain
L: The Lord be with
you.
Vanessa
C:
And also with you.
L: Let us pray together … (in
unison)
C; Lord, maker
of all things, you open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living
creature. We praise you for crowning the fields with your blessings and
enabling us once more to gather in the fruits of the earth. Teach us to use
your gifts carefully, that our land may continue to yield her increase; through
your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

The wonders of Your mighty love
My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You
Shout
to the Lord All the earth let us sing
Power and majesty Praise to the King
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy
At the work of Your hands
Forever I'll love You
Forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise
I have in You
L: God has made us his people through our Baptism in Christ. Living
together in trust and hope, we confess our faith.
I
believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He
was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He
descended into hell. On the third day he rose again.
He
ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He
will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the
holy catholic Church, the communion
of
saints, the forgiveness of sins, the
resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting. Amen
L: Dear Lord, please hear our prayer. Please help the church through all its struggles and guide it to Your Word. Give us faith in Your Word, O Holy Father.
L: Jesus, help us to stay close to our friends and family and to learn to trust in one another. Let us always be there for those in the time of need.
L: Help the people in the world to find world peace and help governments resolve their own problems in an orderly fashion. Lord, listen to your children.

as they lead the youth of today to become the future leaders in the world. Let
them spread the knowledge they have to their students.

community and may we clearly demonstrate your love, we pray. Help all pastors
and their families to continue in your Service.

Congregational

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and
renew a right spirit within me.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with your free Spirit.
Leaders: Let us all pray…the prayer our Father has taught us…
Lord’s
Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass
against us; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For
thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever and ever.
Amen

Closing Hymn: “How Great Thou Art” (LBW # 532)
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the works thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder, Thy pow’r through-out the universe displayed;
Refrain: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee, How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee, How great thou art! How
great thou art!
When through the woods and forest glades I wander, I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze;
Refrain…
But when I think that God, his Son not sparing, Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing He bled and died to take away my sin;
Refrain…
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation, And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration And there proclaim, “My God, how great thou art!”
Refrain…
