Over 85 years of History

Editor's Note Pages cited below, mostly photo-pages, have been collected in a piecemeal fashion as they were added to the old website. These pages are now being ported over to this page, without much modification. At some later time, the various collections can be synthesized into a more cohesive whole..

Early St. Ansgar's

Personal Anecdotes, beginning with the excerpt is taken from a letter written to St. Ansgar's on the occasion of our 70th Anniversary, in 1997. The letter was written by a well-known and loved former pastor, and as you can read, one of our earliest "members", Dr. Fred. Jensen. If you have additional anecdotes relating to the history of our congregation, please share them!

A Short History of St. Ansgar's

One of the original pages on our 2002 website, this short history (in both English and Danish) was put together by Jette Blair, with much of the information on the early pastors coming from a book by Rebecca Mancuso, Faces of Change – the Danish Community of Montreal (copyright 1997 in Montreal, by the author and the contributors.)

On the occasion of St. Ansgar's 50th Anniversary, a soft-cover booklet of some 24 pages was commissioned, which featured not only the history of the congregation, but also scenes and anecdotes from its daily life. As this book has been out of print for some time, the Church Council has authorized the posting of this scanned version, for free distribution.

As It Happened

The parish of Saint Columba Anglican Church was in N.D.G well before St. Ansgar's. Unfortunately, the parish was closed in 2012. Many of the former parishioners of St. Columba now attend St. Ansgar's, and so their history is, in a sense, our history. This historical book was put together by the congregation in 1982. This book has been out of print for some time, and it was the consensus of a number of the former members of St. Columba that it be scanned and offered via our web site for free distribution.
